Cleaning progress to the forums has been made!

Tue Mar 14, 2023 7:38 am by Alju5

Hello!

I am one of the administrators here. Maybe any of you has noticed that Mario Builder forums lose the number of registered members. This is because there were a lot of users who just spammed the space just by registering and not visiting the forums after that even for years now if at all. There were also a lot of not yet accepted members so as an administrator I felt too undisciplined …

Platform Builder forums

Dear members! I am not active with Mario Builder nor it's forums anymore although I still view some activity here sometimes. This is because of the need to choose some activities from all ones in ridiculously limited time. Good things are that I spend more time on something that has been created by the same creator as for Mario Builder. This is Platform Builder and it's own forum.

Level 1 suddenly deleted?... Empty Level 1 suddenly deleted?...

Post  Moho-Ad Tue May 29, 2012 10:39 am

Hello,

A while now I am working on creating worlds and levels with Mario Builder. Love the new enemies and such and also the possibillities. I am still learning though, but there is one issue that really is bugging and starting to frustrate me a lot.

When I start up Mario Builder the first time, there were no problems. Now there is one thing: I finished building level 1 today, saved it. When I started Mario Builder, the first level was just gone. This happened twice today and only with the very first level.

Can someone explain how this is possible? And yes, I did save the level quite often to make certain that it still was there. Nontheless... Deleted again by the game or computer?...

Welcome, Moho-Ad! Smile

I have never had this kind of problem with Mario Builder or may-be I have had this kind of problem twice when Mario Builder was really new for me. Rolling Eyes So it must be your computer fault... Neutral Or have you just opened another slot may-be? Rolling Eyes

Just in case, I mention also that you must not close Mario Builder application when it is saving because it will not cancel saving it but just discontinue saving it so your level may stay incomplete! Neutral

I also mention just in case that as well you may not understand Mario Builder properly yet and you may do what ever before or after saving your level which even may not seem wrong for you so you cannot explain may-be then you should copy and paste your slot also to another separate folder which will not be replaced by Mario Builder application so you can restore your work again after you lose it at least until you are not sure that Mario Builder is clear for you already. Smile Then your work can by simply restored by pasting it back from the mentioned separate folder. Rolling Eyes

Level 1 suddenly deleted?... Empty Re: Level 1 suddenly deleted?...

Thank you for the welcome.

Fortunately it only happens with the very first level within the game. Just checked my levels again that I have and besides of the first level, the others are saved.

Thereby the third level that I really really like, is still saved. Also build that one in Sandbox and added an ending to it, lol. But strangely the first level keeps on being deleted. Although I have saved the level every time, it keeps being deleted.

Will be trying to utilize the tenth level as level 1, maybe then level 1 stays within the game. Also copied the folder and put that in another one. Will remake level 1 as level 10, lol.

The level that I created for level 1 is now not deleted.

Could starting with Mario entering from a warp pipe in first level cause the level to be deleted? Maybe that was just the problem though.

Also... Where can someone post up levels?

Level 1 suddenly deleted?... Empty Me too!

Post  yoshi123 Mon Aug 13, 2012 5:38 pm

That happened too me as well! I found that it was because I had switched mario and Luigi in the world map. When I fixed it, the first level came back, hope this helped! Smile

Level 1 suddenly deleted?... Empty Re: Level 1 suddenly deleted?...

I really want to like Mario Builder. I've tried, I really have. I've set up world maps, pulled music that I want to use and planned three games with story written. But Mario Builder gets in its own way, and I simply can't deal with it any longer.

1. It runs ridiculously slow on what is basically a new PC. It's frustrating that it's resource intensive enough to slow down Windows 7 to a crawl. I don't have background crap running, and I make it the priority program running. Even with that, it's nearly impossible to do anything after about 10 minutes.

2. My first level, 1-1, is constantly deleted. There's no saving over anything, no mixing up of Mario and Luigi on the map screen, no screwing around while it's saving. The program literally eats my first level for no apparent reason. I lost two hours worth of work when I attempted to link my level with another level, which is another issue all by itself. If I can't keep levels, I'm not wasting time to try to design them. Making a little Mario game should not be a Sisyphean task.

3. Linking is not explained very clearly at all. The manual is poorly written and after hunting for the thread with screenshots, I came to the conclusion that I'd gotten everything backward. That's not good when I'm losing levels and can't use the program, either. I'd go back and attempt to fix the linking issues but my level will probably be deleted while I'm trying to change levels. So, thanks, but no thanks.

The program is a great idea, and when it actually let me create maps and kept them, I was highly impressed. Again, enough impressed that I'd planned out a trilogy of games and spent time mapping out my music choices. But as is, the level-deleting issue and the system resource problems are dealbreakers. Maybe in future iterations I might give it another try.

Level 1 suddenly deleted?... Empty Re: Level 1 suddenly deleted?...

simple fix is make what would be Level 1 be a dummy level. I.E. no map thingy points to it, nothing is in it, etc.
